Karl Farrent ist gebürtiger Engländer, lebt aber seit 1973 in Deutschland. 1978 errang er den ersten Preis beim Wettbewerb Jugend Jazzt, von 1981 ab war er Mitglied der Big Band der EU, „EuroJazz“. Nach dem Jazz-Studium an der MHS Köln kam er 1985 zur Big Band des damaligen SDR. Auftritte, Aufnahmen und CD-Produktionen gab und gibt es mit eigenen Bands, der SWR Big Band sowie u.a. mit Bob Mintzer, Frank Foster, Bill Holman, Rob McConnell, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Don Menza, Slide Hampton, Maria Schneider, Sammy Nestico, Bob Florence, dem Lux-Orchester, Peter Herbolzheimer, James Morrison, Randy Brecker, Manny Albam, der Köln Big Band, Bob Moses, Sam Rivers, Jens Winther, Lee Konitz, ... Außerdem Fernseh- und Festivalauftritte, Radiosendungen, Filmmusik; Lehr-, Theater- und Studiotätigkeit. Seit 1991 ist er zudem geschäftsführender Gesellschafter der SWR Big Band, mit der er zwischen 2002 und 2004 drei aufeinander folgende Grammy-Nominierungen feiern konnte.

Regina Büchner absolvierte mit 13 Jahren ihren ersten Solofernsehauftritt und trat das erste Mal auf einem Jazzfestival auf. Einige Jahre später gewann sie den Solisten-Sonderpreis bei „Jugend jazzt" und wurde Mitglied des Landes-Jugend-Jazz-Orchesters unter der Leitung der Professoren Jiggs Whigham und Bernd Konrad. Seither spielte sie in verschiedenen Combos und Big-Bands, schrieb eigene Kompositionen, z.B. eine Filmmusik und begann Musikunterricht zu erteilen. Seit knapp zehn Jahren leitet sie ein Jazzquartett unter eigenem Namen, Regina Büchner's Jazz 4 Fun.

Gregor Kissling studierte an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. Er musizierte in dem Ensemble des Varieté-Theaters Killesberg, macht Korrepetition und Chorbegleitung und spezialisiert sich auf die Liedbegleitung in der E-Musik. Neben verschiedenen unterrichtenden Tätigkeiten z.B. an der Musikhochschule Nürnberg) ist er immer wieder auch als gefragter Jazz-Pianist präsent, u.a. spielt er in Regina Büchner`’s Jazz 4 Fun.

Der Multiinstrumentalist Rolf-Dieter Fröschlin studierte in Stuttgart Klarinette und war als Saxofonist langjähriges Mitglied der SDR-Big Band und trat in diesem Zusammenhang mit Stars wie Arturo Sandoval, Buddy de Franco und Rob McConnell auf, um nur einige zu nennen. Gleichzeitig trat er auch als Bassist in vielen Bands der Stuttgarter Szene in Erscheinung, unterrichtet und ist Musikredakteur beim SWR.

Manfred Kniel studierte Musik an der Musikhochschule Stuttgart. Zwischen 1973 und 1984 war er Schlagzeuger verschiedener Jazz-Formationen - u.a. beim Jazz Inspiration Orchestra und im Lauren Newton Quartett. Seit 1984 leitet er auch eigene Gruppen, z.B. das Human Music Quintett, das Reduction Quartet und die Band Sweet Emma. Mit den genannten Formationen gab es Rundfunk – und Fernsehproduktionen für die ARD und das ORF, zudem Auftritte bei vielen Jazzfestivals und in Jazzclubs sowie die Einspielung von Schallplatten und CD's. 1978 erhielt eine seiner Produktionen eine Nominierung für den Deutschen Schallplattenpreis. Mit dem Lauren Newton Quartett und der LP "Timbre" errang er 1983 den Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Seit 1983 ist er Dozent an der Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

Klaus-Peter Schöpfer wurde in Stuttgart geboren und ist seit 1983 Mitglied der SWR Big Band. Er studierte in Stuttgart Musik und war einige Jahre Mitglied der Musikhochschul-Big-Band unter der Leitung von Professor Erwin Lehn. Neben seiner erfolgreichen Karriere als Gitarrist - zum Beispiel fünf Solo-CDs unter "Klaus-Peter Schöpfer and Friends" (u. a. mit Ernie Watts, Alex Acuna und Abe Laboriel) - ist er auch als Komponist, Arrangeur, Produzent und Toningenieur mit eigenem Studio tätig. Er hat nicht nur die Musicals "Human Pacific" und "People" produziert, sondern auch vier CDs mit German Brass. Schöpfer hat außerdem bei vielen Produktionen mit Größen des Jazz und Pop als Instrumentalist mitgewirkt. SWR1- und SWR4-Hörer schätzen ihn - vermutlich vielfach unbewusst - als Schöpfer der prägenden Wellen-Jingles.

He has performed, recorded and produced CDs extensively with his own bands, the SDR/SWR Radio Big Bands and with Bob Mintzer, Frank Foster, Bill Holman, Rob McConnell, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Don Menza, Slide Hampton, Maria Schneider, Sammy Nestico, Bob Florence, the Lux-Orchester, Peter Herbolzheimer, James Morrison, Randy Brecker, Manny Albam, the Köln Big Band, Bob Moses, Sam Rivers, Jens Winther and Lee Konitz. Furthermore he has performed on TV and radio, at festivals and he has recorded film music. His activities also include teaching, playing theatre music and working as a studio musician. Since 1991 he is also managing partner of the SWR Radio Big Band, with whom he was nominated for Grammy awards three times in succession between 2002 and 2004.

At just thirteen years of age Regina Büchner performed as a solo artist on TV and participated in a jazz festival. A couple of years later she was awarded the special soloist’s prize at the young musicians’ jazz competition “Jugend Jazzt” and became a member of the Baden-Württemberg Youth Jazz Orchestra under the joint directorship of Professors Jiggs Whigham and Bernd Konrad. She has played in various bands and orchestras, written film music and other compositions and she also teaches. She has been leading her own jazz quartett, Regina Büchner`’s Jazz 4 Fun, for around ten years now.

Gregor Kissling studied music at the Stuttgart Conservatory. He was part of the ensemble of the Varieté Theatre Killesberg, works as a répétiteur and choir accompanist and specialises in lied accompaniment in classical music. In addition to various teaching occupations (e.g. at the Nuremberg Conservatory) he is very busy as a jazz pianist. He is a member of Regina Büchner’s Jazz 4 Fun.

The multi-instrumentalist Rolf-Dieter Fröschlin studied clarinet and saxophone at the Stuttgart Conservatory and, as a saxophonist, was a long-standing member of the SDR Radio Big Band with whom he recorded with the likes of Arturo Sandoval, Buddy de Franco and Rob McConnell, to name but a few. He has worked as a bassist in many Stuttgart-based ensembles, teaches and is music editor at the SWR broadcasting corporation.

With the Lauren Newton Quartet and the recording "Timbre" he was awarded the 1983 „Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik“, the German annual music critics’ prize. Since 1983 he is a lecturer at the Stuttgart Conservatory.

Klaus-Peter Schöpfer was born in Stuttgart and has been a member of the SWR Radio Big Band since 1983. Before, he studied at the Stuttgart Conservatory and, whilst there, played in the conservatory big band under the directorship of Professor Erwin Lehn. Parallel to his successful career as a guitarist – he recorded five Solo-CDs with his project "Klaus-Peter Schöpfer and Friends" with Ernie Watts, Alex Acuna and Abe Laboriel among others – he is an accomplished composer, arranger, producer and recording engineer, equipped with his own studio. He produced two musicals, "Human Pacific" and "People", and also the four CDs with German Brass. Schöpfer cooperated as a guitarist in numerous productions with well-known jazz and pop artists. Furthermore, he is the creator of the sound design of SWR1 and SWR4.
